Review spectacular

I haven’t had too much free time of late to blog as I’ve been a bit busy with an influx of games for review. Luckily it seems as though the flood of gaming goodness has died down for now so here’s some linkage to my reviews:

Next up is Left 4 Dead 2 and conveniently enough I should be catching Zombieland shortly. how’s that for a coincidence? :)

Getting Acer multimedia hotkeys to work in Vista

Acer HotkeysI installed Songbird earlier today and was a bit upset that my Acer laptop’s multimedia hotkeys weren’t working even though I had set up the Global hotkeys preference in Songbird itself.  A quick bit of digging on the Google led me to this thread on the Winamp forums where a user by the name of FineWolf traced the problem to the Acer Launch Manager program.  His solution was to edit the config file for Launch Manager, MMKEYBD.CFG, in C:\Program Files\Launch Manager by removing the lines for the multimedia hotkeys.

Using his method got my hotkeys work in both foobar 2000 and Songbird.  If you’ve got a similar problem and you’re running an Acer laptop then grab hold of the zip file with his edited config file and copy it over your existing file. After a quick restart your keys should now be working in your music program. Just make sure of course that any option for global hotkeys are enabled to use them.

Weddings and beans

Now that the past weekend is over I can finally get back into the groove of irregularly posting to this blog and trying to get out game reviews in between late evenings of “pwning n00bz” and days filled with counting beans. The past two weeks I’ve crammed for my qualification exam and finally wrote it this past Saturday. Hopefully in two months time I’ll get some positive results back and be a professional bean counter.  Other than that I was also lucky enough to attend the wedding of my best mate and act as his best man for the day. Despite my nerves the best man speech went down brilliantly with my bad jokes actually getting some laughs for once!  Thee wedding was great and everything went without a hitch even though the heavens opened and it rained for the entire evening.  My best wishes to both Chantelle and Craig for their married days ahead. Chantelle, if you’ve managed to survive Craig for so long then you are a remarkable woman :)
