When times are tough…

everest_beauty_med… the tough get going.  Entering into my final week at my current company I never expected it to get this hectic.  Pile after pile of work has landed on my desk with nary a moment to breath in between the jobs awaiting my attention.  The added pressure is that I’ve only got till Friday to finish off all this work and at the same time try to get done with my qualification assignments by the end of the week.  One thing that is certainly not helping much is the ever present heatwave hanging over Cape Town for the past week or so.  Its just impossible to concentrate for long enough without getting frustrated with the high temperatures.  A brief respite has been handed to me with a day and a half of vacation I had to take midweek.  Hopefully this will give me the time I need to buckle down and get done with all these accursed assignments.  I know that once they’re done I can breathe a huge sigh of relief and take some time to celebrate a job well done.  So tomorrow I’ll be up at the crack of dawn slaving away over an OpenOffice spreadsheet frantically computing sums and numbers while trying to shut out the outside world.  If the world is scheduled to end tomorrow I’ll unfortuantely have to take a raincheck till I’m free :D

Lord of the Rings: Conquest review

LOTR ConquestA quick heads up before the weekend ends, my review for Lord of the Rings: Conquest is done and dusted.  Pop on over to Xboxgaming.co.za to read it and feel free to leave me some comments.  Have a good week everyone!

Prince of Persia review

POPJust a quick word to let you know that my Prince of Persia review is finally up on Xboxgaming.co.za.  Yeah, I know the game came out last December already but I had to take some time to let the game’s unique story and atmosphere soak its way into my mind before I could put pen to paper.  If you have 5 minutes to spare pop on over to the site and leave me a comment or two.  It would be much appreciated! :)

A smile a day…

So its been a relatively tough week for me of late as those of you who read my previous post will know, but thankfully there have been one or two bright lights in this dark week :)

  • Firstly, I was fortunate enough to chat to a client today who upon hearing I was to be leaving thanked me profusely and said how’d she would miss me.  It was a great boost to hear that as I have come to love working with clients on a daily basis and their feedback always motivates me.
  • I also some great advice from a friend that I should rather approach this career shift as a door opening and see it as an opportunity for new challenges.  This is something I really took to heart and its helped tremendously.
  • Then here was this post by justB[coz] today that made me laugh out loud as it was so apt!

So thank you one and all for making my week that little bit brighter.  I can take on the transition now with a smile on my face and with no regrets :D

Blue Mondays return

WorkMan oh man how I am glad today is over.  This has certainly not been my day with the universe throwing everything it could at me.  So needless to say its been a bit of a tough day for me.  Thankfully its over for now and I can relax a bit while my brief respite lasts.  Unfortuantely tomorrow will bring no let up so I’ll just have to roll with the punches and cope with it as best I can.  My professional situation has taken a bit of a sea change of late leading me to drastically rethink where my future career will be taking me as well as the best way to approach my short term future.  Thankfully so far there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel and I’ve got a few things lined up here and there to tide me over in the meantime.  Hopefully everything will work out for the best at the end of the day.  As my good friend Tracy told me earlier today, I should take this as an opportunity and accept the challenge and that’s something I intend to do to the fullest.  So hold thumbs for me!

Theme me a new one

Thanks to the latest Wordpress 2.7.1 upgrade my K2 theme I used on my blog beforehand has bitten the dust.  Rather than try and use the unstable nightlies for the theme I decided this would provide me with ample opportunity to start from scratch.  So lo and behold, my brand spanking new iNove theme.  There are still some bugs and rough edges in it but hopefully I can get it straightened up with the help of my web guru friend Ryan ;)

So leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Wordpress 2.7.1

logoDarn it if my Wordpress installation didn’t just impress the socks off me with its new upgrade utility!  Wordpress 2.7.1 was just released and all I needed to do was click upgrade from my dashboard and et voila, it was done in a few seconds with no hassles.  Good on you Wordpress!

Edit: It would seem my K2 theme isn’t too happy with the upgrade.  I’ll try and sort out the problem pronto.

Many happy returns

TaxesSorry for being scarce of late but the last week and a bit has been a mad rush for me at work due to the recent tax return deadline that required me to work hectic hours to try and get all our clients’ tax returns in on time.  Needless to say SARS’ online system was as slow as molasses on the last day which meant I was in the office till late frantically filling forms in.  Thankfully the weekend brought me some respite with the now more regular FIFA evenings at Karl’s place with Craig and Ryan rounding out the clan.  Unfortunately I didn’t have much joy in terms of results, but I did manage to score in terms of chips by bringing along a second packet of Ghost Pops and chowing them down by the handful in between losing.  With Craig being the overall victor for the evening I’ll leave it to him to sum up the evening’s games with this entry on his blog.  My Saturday brought with it the traditional 6am wake up in time for my weekly squash thrashing at Ryan’s hands and which doubles as my weekly form of exercise.  Otherwise I got roped into the usual array of online games and managed to make some further progress on my work assignments before crashing in front of the TV on Sunday evening to see how Manchester United regained the lead in the English Premiership by beating West Ham thanks to a classic Ryan Giggs goal.  The perfect way to wind down a busy week :)
